DAY 9 February – Origin – Manaus INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT Arrival to Manaus airport, the capital of the state of Amazonas, and the central point for all excursions into the Amazon jungle. We will stop at our accommodation. In the evening we will go to the Sambódromo to live one of the best experiences of the world, to parade in the famous Carnival of Brazil. There we will go to a Samba School and wear a “fantasia” (costume) to rehearse the choreography with them. Then we will go into the Sambódromo to feel the emotions of this big party parading in a Samba School along the Sambódromo. After the parade we will be transferred to the hotel. Accommodation.

DAY 10 February – Manaus (B) After having breakfast, free day to take optional tours. We recommend visiting the Amazon Theater, the Port, the Cathedral and the Old Quarter. In the afternoon we will have the option to go to the “Carnaval de Rua” (Brazilian Street Carnival) (not included). That is a popular festivity where people meet at the streets to dance and parade with their costumes. Accommodation.

DAY 11 February – Manaus – Amazon Expedition (B,L,D) In the morning, the expedition along the Amazon River will begin at the Port of Manaus, in a private boat that will accommodate us for 4 days during the expedition. At the beginning of the journey we will arrive at the “encontro das aguas”, location where the waters of the Rio Negro and the Rio Solimoes meet without mixing. Afterwards we will enter into the river in small rafts to fish piranhas and observe the caimans. Accommodation aboard ship in hammocks.

DAY 12 February – Amazon Expedition (B,L,D) During the second day on this Amazon Expedition, we will continue along Rio Negro to visit a Paricatuba community and we will observe the historic ruins. In the afternoon we will visit an Acajatuba community where we will experience the customs and crafts of the natives and we will also go for a walk to learn the secrets to survive on the Amazon Forest. Later we will travel by canoe to a beach where we will enjoy a moonlight churrasco dinner. Accommodation aboard ship in hammocks.

DAY 13 February – Amazon Expedition (B,L,D) In the morning, we will be able to take a bath in the river. After having breakfast we will visit a caboclo village in the ecological reserve of the Anavilhanas, where we will have the opportunity to swim with the pink river dolphins that make their home in the river. In the afternoon, we will leave the boat for a jungle survival experience accompanied by a native guide. We will hike through the rain forest, learning life saving skills, such as how to extract water and milk from trees, primitive hunting techniques and the medicinal properties of various plants. We will then set up camp and prepare a campfire meal to enjoy with caipirinhas. Accommodation in the jungle camp in hammocks.

DAY 14 February – Amazon Expedition – Manaus – Rio de Janeiro (B,L) NATIONAL FLIGHT We will pack up the camp and begin our journey back to the river. Once we arrive to the boat we will have the chance to enjoy a well deserved swim. After that, we will travel downriver to the Caucho Museum, where we will learn about this substance’s historical importance for the region. Transfer to Manaus airport for departure to Rio de Janeiro. The Carioca City has a certain magical quality, and offers the traveler a wide variety of tourist sites and a great number of leisure activities. Transfer from the airport to the Hotel located on Copacabana Beach. Accommodation.

DAY 15 & 16 February – Rio de Janeiro (B) Free days to do optional excursions. You will be able to choose between a great variety of optional activities in Rio de Janeiro, including a visit to the Sugarloaf Mountain, Christ Corcovado, Maracaná, the National Park of Tijica, and the Botanical Garden. There are also optional one-day trips outside the city such as a visit to Petrópolis, Niteroi or Buzios. On Saturday, we will attend to the Sambódromo to see the Winner’s Parade of the famous Rio’s Carnival. Accommodation.

DAY 17 February – Rio de Janeiro – Destination (B) INTERNATIONAL FLIGHT Transfer to Rio de Janeiro Airport for departure to next destination. B = Breakfast L = Lunch D = Dinner
