Tour Itinerary: WONDERFUL PORTUGAL in 8 days Day 1 – Lisbon
Arrival at the airport in Lisbon. Transfer and accommodation at the hotel.
Day 2 – Lisbon / Sintra Breakfast at the hotel. Departure for a panoramic walk through the city. You visit the Belem Tower and the Jeronimos Monastery with the tomb of Vasco da Gama. In the afternoon departure towards the royal place of Sintra, where you have the pleasure to admire the stunning scenery of nature. Time to enjoy the traditional Vila de Sintra, at height of 1500 meters with its breathtaking views from the courtyard. Continue to Fatima where you stay to overnight.
Day 3 – Fatima / Alcobaça / Batalha Breakfast at the hotel. Fatima, renowned as the world’s pilgrimage centre, is best known for the famous apparitions that took place there in 1917. You will visit the Chapel of Apparitions. An open-air chapel built on the site of the appearances and the Fatima’s Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Rosary, where the tombstone of the three young visionaries Lucia, Jacinta and Francisco lie. Free time. Continue to Alcobaça to visit the Cistercian Alcobaça Monastery, built by the first Portuguese king in the 12th century. Its church was the first building in Portugal to adopt the Gothic style and is the largest church in the country. You are on our way to the fishing harbor of Nazare, where you will enjoy the beautiful sea view. Further on, visiting Batalha with its Monastery Santa Maria da Vitoria, one of Europe’s greatest Gothic masterpieces. Return to Fatima to stay overnight.
Day 4 – Coimbra / Aveiro Breakfast at the hotel and departure for Coimbra, the first capital of Portugal and home to one of the world’s first universities. Panoramic walk through the city, visiting the Rectory and the gilded baroque Library of its 700-year-old university and the Convent of Santa Clara as well. Free time in the center of the city, strategically situated on a hill overlooking the Mondego River. Drive further to Aveiro, city of canals, known because of them as the “Portuguese Venice” where you shall see the graceful boats “moliceiros” and taste the local sweets “ovos moles”. Northward to Porto where you stay overnight.
Day 5 - Douro Wine Region In the morning you depart from Porto heading northeast, our destination being Régua, located in the Douro Wine Region. The Douro Wine Region was considered, in March 2010, the World’s 7th Best Sustainable Tourism Destination by National Geographic and is also the oldest demarked region in the world. This trip will take more or less 90 minutes. On arrival we make a brief pause, to allow you to take in the charisma of the region, before heading for Pinhão travelling on one of the most enchanting routes in Portugal. In Pinhão you will pay a visit to what use to be the old railway station, now a store and museum with a display of unique items representing the great viticulture traditions of this region, followed by lunch at a typical regional estate and then visits to other Port and Douro wine producing estates so you can fully understand the way of life of these people and be enlightened on the current and former production processes. The return journey is made travelling on the highway, passing alongside Vila Real towards Porto. Accommodation in Porto.
Day 6 – Porto / Guimarães Breakfast at the hotel. Morning to enjoy Porto, the 2nd largest city of Portugal and one of Europe’s most charismatic cities. Panoramic walk visiting the Stock Exchange with its contemporary decorated Arabian hall, inspired by Granada’s Alhambra; followed by the richly decorated Church of Sao Francisco and Clerigos Tower. After this you will make a boat trip discovering the riverside area where is the old town taking place, centered at Ribeira. It was built on the hills overlooking the Douro River, and today is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Next, you visit a Port wine cellar with a wine tasting. In the afternoon we continue towards Guimaraes, the cradle of the Portuguese nation. You will take a walk along the narrow streets of the historical centre of the city and visit the Castle. Accommodation in Porto.
Day 7 – Porto / Tomar / Obidos Breakfast at the hotel. Further on, Tomar, historic town best known for its connections to the intriguing Order of the Knights Templar. You will visit the Convento da Ordem de Cristo and after continuing towards medieval Obidos. There you take a walk through the narrow streets surrounded by medieval walls and visit the Castle and the renaissance Church, the Igreja de Santa Maria. Departure for Lisbon. Accommodation in Lisbon.
Day 8 – LisbonBreakfast at the hotel and transfer to the airport. End of our services.
